Our Story
Alta Concordia — from the Latin: alta, meaning elevated, and concordia, meaning harmony, the accord of hearts. Together: elevated harmony.
The name was chosen deliberately. The German Shepherd, at its finest, is a living expression of that harmony — power held gently, independence given freely, beauty that works and drive that endures. Max von Stephanitz built the breed on a single conviction: Nutzung und Intelligenz — utility and intelligence, inseparable. A dog that is merely beautiful is unfinished. A dog that merely works is incomplete. The ideal is the synthesis of both.
Alta Concordia was founded on that same belief.
1999 · Kharkiv, Ukraine
Our kennel, Alta Concordia, was established in 1999 in Kharkiv, Ukraine. The kennel earned its FCI recognition with its very first litter, a pairing between Frodo z Dyatlovih Gor and Navaha Kazar, two high performing show-line German Shepherds who defied the conventions of their type by demonstrating exceptional working ability alongside their conformation excellence.
That founding litter set the tone for everything that followed: dogs that are beautiful to look at, but built and driven to work.
The Next Generation
The kennel's story continued through the breeding of Navaha Kazar with Astor vom Helgles Brünnele — an import from Germany. This pairing produced the Zh-litter Alta Concordia, who went on to compete in dog sports all over the world, validating the kennel's vision of breeding dogs that excel at the highest levels of sport.
The descendants of this pairing still provide essential services and active companionship in Ukraine.
New England
Years later, Brava av Garm Haus entered our lives — acquired and trained by Irina from the ground up. Brava rose to place second in the New England Regional IGP Championship, a testament to both her natural talent and the dedication behind her development. Though Brava did not leave progeny, her presence reignited the joy of dog sport and reminded us why we do this.
Today · Worcester, Massachusetts
Our current dog, Xsena von der Planwarte, was imported from Germany at under two years of age. She had been prepared for service with a police unit until we intervened. Her fearless character, relentless drive, and remarkable sociability with people and environments made her impossible to pass up.
Xsena now carries the Alta Concordia name into its next chapter — paired with the outstanding Imzedrift's Sam, with a litter expected in May 2026. From Ukraine to New England, the thread of excellence continues.
